Inspiration

This game was inspire by Papa's Pizzeria, a flash game I used to play. The customer and menu system are inspired by the game.

What it does

Balanced Bites helps you practice meal planning and choosing foods based on their macronutrients.

How we built it

I built the game using Unity 2D and designed the assets with paint.net. I used one royalty free asset from https://www.freepik.com/free-vector/cartoon-set-kitchen-counter-with-appliances-fridge-microwave-oven-kettle-blender_2688293.htm.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was hand-designing all of the assets. I underestimated how long it would take to create the foods assets, and as a result there were less food options than I had intended.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm happy that the game ended up being fully functional. The Unity documentation is confusing at times, and there were many bugs that I had to go through, but I managed to make a playable version by the end.

What we learned

I gained more knowledge about the macronutrient makeup of some common foods.

What's next for Balanced Bites

I plan on increasing the number of foods and adding gameplay expansions, such as new customers. I also plan on adding challenging restrictions for some customers, such as vegan or vegetarian options, to make it more difficult to choose foods.
