Inspiration

We got our inspiration from asking clients what is the most difficult part of studying for revision, we received around 30 responses, some saying that it was difficult to revise because they have to write stuff down, another response would be they just couldn't find revising interesting. So we decided to make revision fun by making them be able to speak to Alexa and you choosing how many questions you are asked.

What it does

Gradeup initially asks the user a random question from the list of questions, and by the user saying one of the key words, they will either get it correct or incorrect, when the user gets the question correct Alexa will ask the user if they want to answer another question.

How I built it

We initially started building it when we found out what our groups were via Acorn Aspirations (They get a group of younglings together to start to learn how technology works as well as pitching for our business futures, we get to know eachother and what we like to do and we usually have a few days to come up with a resolution of the product.) After we got into our groups, we worked together to share what we know in coding and make the basis, the questions to be asked. After we got the questions and answers sorted we started to work on Alexa asking the questions, once that worked we got Alexa to start asking the questions randomly. Finally with everything else working good we got her to ask if we would like to hear another question and so forth.

Challenges I ran into

We firstly ran into problems such as coming up with a project to build, we all had such good ideas with Alexa and we wanted to expand it further, but we needed to jot the essentials down first so that we can really start to have a visual for what our project is.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This is our first ever Alexa skill as well as learning Node. Js within a week to do this challenge, we all worked in a group as well as pitched it in front of judges and having their opinions said,

What I learned

We learned how to work together in a group as well as coming up with an idea to make revision an easier thing to do on a daily basis by not having to write words down and making it ineffective, we can work with Alexa to make students with Echo to be as effective of learning as they an get.

What's next for GradeUp

Hopefully we can expand do more than just biology questions, we will ask subject questions such as History or Maths, and go even further with A Level's or for all students.
