sustain.

Inspiration

In the year 2018, 292.4 million tons of waste were produced. That was approximately 4.9 pounds per person per day. Of that only around ⅓ of the waste was recycled and composted. Our team was motivated by the need to produce less waste in our environment and the personal responsibility we hold to make those small changes in our lives.

What it does

Sustain is a website designed with the purpose of providing users with locations that provide uses for a more sustainable life. Ranging from Recycling Centers, water refill stations, and zero waste grocery stores, Sustain provides resources to help users practice sustainability by locating nearby sustainable establishments.

How we built it

The website was built with HTML/CSS, Javascript, and Google-Maps-API

Challenges we ran into

The main struggle that occurred from the project was the cooperation with the Google Maps API. From problems with it not working with the key to struggles with locations not being set.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The big accomplishment was that we were able to successfully integrate the Google Maps API into a website as well as have it function properly with certain actions

What we learned

We learned for some, how to use HTML as well as learn how to properly integrate APIs such as Google Maps into a website in HTML.

What's next for sustain.

Our team is planning on gathering more info on sustainable establishments to add to each of the page's location markers. This is important so more users across the nation can utilize our web app.
