Inspiration
We were inspired to create GreenThread after learning about the staggering impact of the fashion industry on water resources. Did you know that it takes approximately 2,700 liters of water to produce one cotton t-shirt? As we delved deeper into the issue, we realized the urgent need to reduce textile waste and conserve water. This inspired us to create a platform that promotes the reuse and recycling of clothes, which not only reduces waste but also saves water. We believe that by building a circular fashion economy, we can make a positive impact on the environment and promote a more sustainable future.
What it does
GreenThread is an online platform that enables people to donate, sell or buy recycled clothes. Our platform connects donors with people who need clothes, including households and orphanages. We also provide employment opportunities for stay-at-home men and women by creating new products from recycled clothes. Additionally, we help raise awareness about the environmental impact of textile waste and educate consumers on sustainable fashion practices.
How we built it
We built GreenThread using modern web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Typescript NextJS, MongoDB. Our team also utilized Velo Wix to develop an alternative website for our project.
Challenges we ran into
Formulating the Schema at the Data Base Level and also on how to filter the end products at every level of our model design in a single seller platform
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As a team of students who built this model website as part of a hackathon, we're proud of the progress we've made towards creating a more sustainable future. Despite the challenges we faced in the limited time, we were able to develop a functional website that addresses the pressing issue of textile waste and water conservation. We are proud of the impact our project can have in promoting circular fashion and providing employment opportunities for stay-at-home men and women. This experience has taught us valuable lessons in teamwork, problem-solving, and the power of innovation. We are excited to continue developing GreenThread and make it a reality.
What we learned
Throughout the development of GreenThread, we have learned a lot about the impact of textile waste and the benefits of recycling clothes. We have discovered that recycling old clothes can significantly reduce the environmental impact of producing new clothes. We have also learned that creating job opportunities for stay-at-home men and women can have a positive impact on local communities. Additionally, we have learned that educating consumers on sustainable fashion practices is critical to building a more conscious approach to fashion.
What's next for GreenThread
Our vision for GreenThread is to continue to grow and expand our impact. We want to build additional features, create partnerships with more orphanages and communities and expand our network of donors and recipients. We also plan to develop new products made from recycled clothes and promote sustainable fashion practices through educational initiatives. Our ultimate goal is to create a more conscious approach to fashion, one that promotes sustainability and empowers people to make a positive impact on the environment and their communities.
