Inspiration

After the previous hit project, Wone, we have decided to double down and create Grone, the Ground Drone.

What it does

The Grone, as the name implies, is a ground drone... an Ostrich of the sky, one that can't fly. It is a strong resilient, post-apocalyptic surveying drone, which has two wheel drive capabilities to explore possibly dangerous for humans.

How we built it

It began with a dream, a dream to give Wone a worthy brother. The Grone was given a flat, sleek, small chassis for the circuits and wheels to be attached to. Limitations from the scarcity of wheels, resulted in a three wheel design with two separately driven motors and a rotary wheel for stability, the steering controlled by complex mathematical modelling of rotational ratios programmed in C. A radio and sensor were attached to the controller and Grone, respectively, unlocking the remote control features which provide safety for the humans utilising the volumptuous Grone. A multitude of environmental sensors were attached atop the marvelous, miraculous, mysterious Grone birthing its ability to inform humans about the potential dangers of the areas ahead.

Challenges we ran into

During development of Wone's long distant brother, many challenges were faced. The lack of wheels available on the market, forced negotiations to develop an optimally stable and efficient driving mechanism, leading to the three wheel design. Configuring the sensor input on the Grone provided a substantial amount of toil, which was overcome by our strong worthy development team.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The development process has given us many pleasures of building up our love child, the Grone, including the implementation of the remote-control features and driving the drone across the floor for the first time. Giving us the same pleasure of that of a parent watching their child take their first step.

What we learned

Many lessons were learnt from the Grone, like the harsh lessons of vehicle stability and spatial management of the chassis.

What's next for Grone

EXPANSION. Of the Wone, Grone family. The Grone will be given a multisensor ecosysem atop its back and upgrades to the communication systems will be implemented to build up further driving abilities
