Inspiration

According to the severe flooding situations around Henan, China recently, it is a serious issue that many people trapped by flood cannot be rescued immediately because they cannot connect with the rescue teams. So we would like to build an app aimed to rescue more people from this kind of catastrophes in the future, and also to make the rescue teams work more effectively.

What it does

This app is for both rescuers and trapped people to provide their locations and contact information, and to obtain contact information of nearest rescuers or people who need to be rescued.

How we built it

Angular + Google map plugin + firebase database

Challenges we ran into

Angular is new to some of our members, and it took time to figure out how to embed Google Map into our web app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have built components for each functions and succeed to include Google Map in the app.

What we learned

Angular programming, API usages, web development

What's next for RescueConnect

Future directions:

  1. It would be more useful to make the app connect to live data so that we can provide more accurate information.
  2. It is also necessary to do stress test on the app, to make sure that app is capable of handling the massive volume of requests after incidents happen.
  3. To support automatic pairing between rescuers and trapped people. Will be helpful if some pairing algorithms can be used to assign rescuers to certain locations more efficiently.
