Inspiration

Psychological problems have been a great concern today. There are people who are struggling but have no one to talk to. Traumas like sexual assault, domestic violence, and school bullying are deep scars that are so hard to heal. We need a safe place for people to talk and heal without difficulty.

What it does

Our project, healing, competes for the Reconnect Track. Healing is a non-profitable web app that helps people with psychological problems. The main function is to have 1-to-1 anonymous chats between users and volunteer therapists. For the users, there are no registration and log-in requirements. They only need to enter a nickname (for anonymous chat), age, gender, preference for the gender of the therapist, and a tag that best describes the situation they are in. But the volunteers need to provide any certificates/proof of therapy. They can be either professional therapists or people with enough related work experience. The developers will check their applications and information strictly. What they say will be reviewed constantly to avoid misbehaviors.

How we built it

Front-end: Html, CSS, javascript Back-end and connection: python Database: SQL Chat room: unity & photon

Challenges we ran into

The connection of the front-end and back-end as well as different modules. We are all new to end connections and how data can be saved to the database.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our idea is to help those who need psychological consulting and provide them with convenience. Wish their hurting feelings could be healed. For technological work, we practiced and learned a lot of new knowledge, such as how to connect the front-end and back-end. The save data function was also achieved.

What we learned

Teamwork. All the members are so helpful and we had a good time and learned a lot from each other. We also have more insights into psychological problems and mental health.

What's next for Group#35

Connect all modules. To get the web project more versatile! For example, the awards/reinforcement system for the volunteers. Each volunteer will have a small tree at the beginning. Every time they help people and give love, there will be drops of water/fertilizer provided for the tree. The volunteers can see how they make a change by visually seeing the tree grows.
