Inspiration
We were given the theme "A Better Future With Tech!" Many may interpret this as breaking down the power of social media. We're all worried about the negative impact that addictive social media apps have on our mental health. But what if we used all the tricks the big tech companies used to get us to stay on their apps to enforce healthy, daily habits?
What it does
Habituate allows you to set and maintain personal goals using social accountability and social media tricks to push you to be your best self through a set of morning routines. Each day, you're prompted to complete a set of morning goals. You document and post your progress, and you compare your results with the community.
Instead of having FOMO about missing that trip to Italy, you'll have fear of missing out on a healthy lifestyle!
How we built it
We created a cross-platform app using react-native, with plans to integrate firebase and accountability features in the future.
Challenges we ran into
We had issues with recent updates to firebase, as well as environment differences between team members that slowed down our progress. Refocusing our goals, and taking time to help each other help us form good habits for our workflow.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Three of our four team members have never touched javascript or react native before today. Yet, we were able to git pull together and push out a workable demo.
What we learned
We learned the basics of user design and mobile development. This was an intense bootcamp to build stronger development skills.
What's next for Habituate
We'd like to integrate authenticate and cloud FireStore as well as social media features and algorithms to make our users' good habits addictive.
We would like to add a path to profitability. Currently, insurance companies are hemorrhaging capital through client's unhealthy lifestyle issues. We can offer sponsorship to our users through partnerships with these insurance firms.
