Inspiration

Since the pandemic, hackathons went online, and finding people to team up with and make a project with is difficult, especially when you don't know anyone and when you're in an online setting. Finding a group causes a waste of valuable time, which can be used for your project and may cause a shift in plans depending on how that search goes. I and my partner have gone through this issue time and time again, ever since we took part in online hackathons since late 2020. We wanted to develop an idea for something that optimizes the process of finding a partner or team while saving valuable time needed for your project.

What it does

A system that basically matches you and another participant in a hackathon when it identifies similarities between these factors: interests, skills, and experience. Once it identifies a possible partner, you can start discussing specifics regarding the hackathon in a chatroom that will be created after identification from the database.

Form of this app/Alternative Uses

We plan on this idea being delivered as a phone app, but it can also be a chrome extension or an extension/component with Devpost itself.

How we built it

Since we are competing in the Pitch track of this hackathon, we didn't do any development other than using Figma to create an initial prototype mockup, to bring our idea to life. We used Canva to make a slideshow so we can effectively and visually deliver our idea.

Challenges we ran into

Working with the Figma software as it was tough since we weren't that proficient with that. It was also late when we filmed our demo, we apologize for any inconveniences, we did our best.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Thinking of an idea that aims to solve an issue and make a certain process efficient and working with a team of two during a very late night.

What technologies would be used if this idea was made with code

HTML/CSS/JavaScript for frontend, Python and Flask for backend and database, Twilio for SMS connections, and Cockroach DB for storage.

What's next for HackUFind

Developing it with code using the technologies mentioned above.
