Inspiration
We were inspired by apps with a slightly similar model of anonymity, but restricted to professionals. We wanted to bring similar benefits of community, freedom, and information to students like ourselves across several universities.
What it does
Hall is a mobile web-app that serves as a forum for students to share information and learn from one another. We stand out in the anonymous nature of user post and the focus away from each individual having an "online presence". The platform only allows verified students to join and allows them to engage in their immediate community/universities as well as connect with students in other universities through channels of shared interest e.g Games, Football, Music, Events, etc
How we built it
We built this app using React.js and Flask frameworks alongside a relational database hosted on AWS' cloud platform
Challenges we ran into
- Getting lost in juggling multiple tasks
- Getting familiar with AWS instances creations and policies
- Maintaining documentation of information crucial to shared work
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Implementation of designs into functioning front-end
- Efficient cooperation of developing different or same parts of the project simultaneously
- Producing a well-designed proof-of-concept of a social/forum-based app in under 24 hours
What we learned
- AWS database deployment
- SQLAlchemy ORM usage
- Prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment
What's next for Hall
- A discover page
- Job Search page and functionality
- Messages between users
- Inclusion of more universities
- A separate account mode for incoming students and alumni
