Wrist Mate

Inspiration

The purpose of the Wrist Mate app is to provide a one-stop resource for Carpal tunnel preventative care.

What it does

The purpose of this app is to provide a one-stop resource for Carpal tunnel preventative care. It provides sets of exercises categorized by the severity of the carpal tunnel afflicting the user. By doing so, users can receive a personalized list of exercises depending on their needs. As well, users can look through the entire list of exercises, categorized by severity and localization of hand exercises.

How we built it

We built this entirely in Expo and React-Native.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Neither of us have ever used React-Native or expo before this Friday. Nor React, nor JavaScript. We learned everything entirely from scratch, this weekend.

Challenges we ran into

The most difficult problem was getting the carousel to work. the carousel library we used had a dependency that had been deprecated by React-Native. We looked all over StackOverflow, which had no good answers even though lots of people had the error as well. Finally, after lots of trial and error we edited a line in a config file in node_modules, which linked the dependency needed for it to work. We're waiting on StackOverflow to give us a prize for figuring it out. We also figured out how to add videos to the carousel - something StackOverflow was also unable to figure out - but those videos didn't make it into the final product.

What we learned

This weekend was a crash course in React-Native, and gave us a lot of respect for how difficult it is to make professional apps.

What's next for Wrist Mate

We hope to compile this into an app and deliver it to the app store.
