Haunted Games

Inspiration

Our inspiration involved creating games that were fun and tailored to the Halloween theme. We all enjoy playing similar games to the ones we created, and wanted to make something that others could enjoy too.

What it does

Allows you to relax (aside from a couple jump-scares!) and choose from 3 different games to play. You can try to beat your highscore on flappy bird, avoid the bounds as a snake, or embrace the spooky season by decorarting your own pumpkin!

How we built it

We built all three of our games using pygame with python. We divided and conquered, each creating a game that we would personally want to play. In the end we put it all into one file and allowed user input to specify what game they would like to play.

Challenges we ran into

It was definitely difficult to get our project done in time. Our original vision was to have a website that was more user-friendly which would display 4 games, but we decided to cut it down for the sake of time. It was also half of our groups first experience with pygame which was a bit of a learning curve, but was rewarding and exciting in the end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to learn how to use pygame and OOP. Additionally, the games have some hand drawn and designs which was cool to see come to life. We are happy that we were able to make something that we could all enjoy despite having different interests. Lastly, we are extremely proud that we were able to submit a project, even though it strayed from our original vision. It was many of our first hackathons, and we are excited to see how we can use what we learned in future ones.

What we learned

We learned how rewarding it is to see your vision come to life. There were definitely points where we felt as though we would never get something to work, but in the end we found a way to do so. Aside from learning how to work with pygame and OOP, we now know that we can set our mind to something and understand how to implement it, even if it is discouraging at times.

What's next for Haunted Games

We would like to finish our project as we envisioned it, with 4 games and a website. This will make the games more user friendly, aesthetically pleasing, and will be fun for us to work on together.
