HEALense: Intelligent Object Recognition System

What it does

HEALense is an intelligent object recognition system that helps users identify and locate objects in their environment through a simple web interface. Users can take photos using their webcam or upload images, then use voice commands or text input to identify specific objects within those images.

Key Features:

  • Object Identification: Point your camera at any scene and identify objects instantly
  • Voice & Text Input: Use natural language to describe what you're looking for
  • AI Assistant: Get contextual help and information about identified objects
  • Search History: Track and revisit all your previous object searches
  • Multi-modal Input: Support for both webcam screenshots and file uploads
  • Visual Feedback: Bounding boxes show exactly where objects are located in images

The system is designed to be accessible and user-friendly, helping people with visual impairments, students learning about their environment, or anyone who needs to quickly identify objects around them.

How we built it

Backend Architecture:

Frontend Architecture: We built HEALense as a modern React 19 application with a component-based architecture.

  • Tailwind CSS for responsive, modern styling
  • Web Speech API for real-time voice input functionality
  • react-webcam for camera integration and screenshot capture
  • React Spring Parallax for smooth animations and effects
  • Lottie React for engaging visual animations
