Inspiration

We were inspired by Mr Kennebec's presentation on patient safety in order to find our five problem categories from which we narrowed it down to what we thought would be the most impactful area to work on. After the workshop we began to think of ideas immediately to help this crisis and help the people in need.

What it does

Specifically, we chose to focus on patients that suffer from sporadic behavior while in an unconscious or unattended to state, and this so happened to be mainly patients suffering with epilepsy. It's also for monitoring patients who have medical conditions. What we devised was a program in python using the tKinter library in order to utilize a webcam to track patient movements. This movement is visualized using Open Cv in real time, and this allows abnormal spikes to be seen either in real time or on the graph, which can be accessed in other locations not including immediately near the patient themselves.

How we built it

We used VS Code integrated with GitHub to create a working environment where we codeveloped this project over the course of these two days.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into include errors with pip and importing certain tools, but these were small roadblocks that were beneficial in helping our understanding of the application improve over time. We also learned that api keys cost money and if we had to change something it would be to buy those api keys.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our biggest accomplishment that we are most proud of is creating the motion tracker and visualizing it in real time. We are really proud that we created a platform where it can help patients and nurses helping this crisis. It creates synchrony between the two.

What we learned

We learned how to use open CV and how to use tKinter UI all in one day and implemented it. Some of us didnt even know python but we learned it the day of.

What's next for HealMate Pro

Next is buying api keys and expanding the self assistance aspect of our program. API keys will ensure the user can be helped even without the presence of a nurse and accurately.
