Inspiration The inspiration for this project came from a friend's experience with their dad. His father was struggling with high cholesterol but faced long wait times for doctor appointments, which delayed the necessary treatment. Unfortunately, his condition worsened, and he had to undergo surgery. This situation highlighted the urgent need for timely healthcare access and made us realize the potential of technology in helping individuals manage their health while waiting for professional care. We created HealthFast to empower people to take proactive steps in managing their health and reducing the burden on healthcare systems.
What it does HealthFast is a mobile app designed to help individuals manage chronic symptoms and improve their health proactively. The app provides:
Over-the-counter medication suggestions tailored to users’ symptoms and conditions.
Nearby pharmacies to help users quickly find medications in their area.
Lifestyle change recommendations to help users manage their conditions through diet, exercise, and healthy habits.
Mindfulness and stress-relief tips to improve emotional well-being and overall quality of life. The app aims to empower users to take control of their health while waiting for professional medical care, reducing the strain on healthcare systems.
Challenges we ran into One of the challenges we ran into was making the app accessible: Ensuring that the app was user-friendly for a broad range of users, including those who are not tech-savvy, required careful design and testing. We had to focus on creating intuitive interfaces and simple navigation. Additionally, we faced the challenge of balancing user privacy with usability, ensuring that sensitive health data was securely stored while providing a seamless user experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We are particularly proud of the following accomplishments:
Successfully integrating accurate health data into the app to provide meaningful and relevant advice for users.
Implementing location-based pharmacy search and medication suggestions, making it easy for users to access the resources they need quickly.
Designing a simple, intuitive user interface that can be used by people with various levels of technical expertise.
Ensuring that privacy and security standards were met to protect sensitive health data.
What we learned Throughout this project, we learned the importance of user-centric design. Ensuring the app was both functional and easy to use for a wide audience was key to its success. We also gained valuable insight into healthcare technology, particularly how data-driven solutions can help improve patient care and reduce the burden on healthcare systems. Additionally, we learned about the challenges of ensuring data privacy while still offering features that are useful for users.
What's next for HealthFast Moving forward, we plan to:
Expand the database to include more health conditions and over-the-counter medications.
Integrate telehealth features to allow users to connect with healthcare professionals directly through the app.
Enhance the user experience by incorporating feedback from real users to improve the app’s interface and functionality.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure the app complements professional care and integrates with healthcare systems seamlessly.
Launch the app and raise awareness to make it available to as many people as possible who can benefit from it.
