Inspiration

A single platform that allows persons with disabilities to create courses and share their skills with others, acting as a source of inspiration to other persons with disabilities.

What it does

A web application with an emphasis on inclusivity, and accommodation that allows persons with or without disabilities alike to conduct classes catered for other persons with disabilities.

How we built it

We decided to build a web application so that it could be easily accessible by everybody. For the frontend, we used React.js with Material-UI. For the backend, we built using Firebase, Node.js and Express.js. We chose Firebase because it is scalable and easy to develop with the build products like Cloud Firestore and Authentication.

Challenges we ran into

We have spent a lot of time trying to figure out a universal solution to the issue of co-creating safe and fun playground for people either with or without disabilities to get to know each other. The key moment is when we realised the common interests will be the element that binds people together. That is how we started overcoming the challenge.

What we learned

For some of us, we are not really used to the tech stacks so it has been great fun to learn and implement them. We also have learnt a great deal about communicating in a team project.

What's next for HeartShare

In the future, we will try to add more customised features for students with special needs, such as displaying courses that are suitable for them. We will also implement the features that have yet to be completed such as the chat features so that users could have the best experience out of this application.
