Inspiration
We weren’t sure what we were gonna make, just that: We wanted to make a positive impact on the world We wanted to make a lasting app that can live long past the hackathon. We wanted to learn JS/CSS
With this in mind, “Hello Life” was born. By increasing visibility and connecting people from around the globe, we hope to help eradicate preconceptions and biases that some people may have about other cultures.
How it works
Explore a 3D globe of the world, and experience life like you've never seen it before. What does someone in Singapore have for breakfast? What does someone in Cadiz do for fun? Find out, and add your own!
Challenges I ran into
- Learning Javascript/CSS - None of us are front end developers!
- Memory leaks in WebGLEarth
- Limitations of MediaRecord in WebRTC
- Styling/Customization of the Ionic Framework
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We made something that (mostly) works! We hope to polish it a bit more, then release it on the app store for iOS and android next week!
What I learned
- It's all about iteration. Start small, and build yourself up.
- Let the code talk, not your mouth. Over-planning and discussions don't lead to any real progress.
What's next for Hello Life
We would like to improve the look n feel, as well as the social aspects (such as a follower model/activity stream). A big feature we’d love to add is a “questions and answers” section for each user - where you can ask someone from a remote place a specific question about their life/videos.
