Inspiration
As something that spans multiple disciplines and is not constrained to a single field of expertise, volunteering finds many takers across the globe. However, though many dabble in volunteering, very few find the right organization, movement, or social issue that they are genuinely interested in volunteering for.
Our platform intends to fix just that: if you're genuinely interested in volunteering, we will help find you just the right organization, movement, or social cause that piques your interest, letting you do something for the greater good while also keeping yourself invested in it. Whether you're a student, a professional, or a retiree, we have something in store for everyone.
We're an inclusive and diversity-focused organization, intent on catering to users across all ages, backgrounds and professions, making us milieu-agnostic and keeping us en route our vision to be the future of volunteering.
What it does
Our application provides a common platform to people who wish to either volunteer at an organization, or gather volunteers for their own organization. We allow people to share their organizations on our platforms and categorize them based on the social issue they tackle or the location of the organization. Anyone who wants to volunteer for a cause can select the organization and sign up for it.
How we built it
We built a full-stack web aapplication using TailWindCSS, Next.js, and MongoDb. At the same time, we also implemented a functional cross-platform Flutter app to complement website and help reach more people.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating MongoDB with both the Flutter and web app was difficult to synchronize. Creating different UI frameworks for web and mobile applications was quite time consuming. We also needed to focus on keeping a uniform design framework across platforms.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully implemented a web application and a mobile application in the course of 24 hours, while at the same time this was our first time working together. We worked through the night without sleep and created a uniform synchronized experience across multiple platforms.
What we learned
This was our first time working with MongoDB on Flutter. We also learnt a lot about TailWindCSS, Next.js, and BLoC management in Fluttter.
What's next for HelpinU
We intend on improving on the search functionality of the web app and integrating more search options. We also want to improve on the UI of the app and make it more user-friendly.
