🌿 HerbConnect: Project Story

✨ Inspiration

In a world flooded with synthetic products and fast consumerism, we often forget the healing power of nature. HerbConnect was born from a simple idea: What if we could connect people with natural wellness products easily, while supporting small vendors and encouraging sustainable living?

During a wellness expo, we noticed how fragmented the natural product space is—vendors lack digital reach, and consumers struggle to find trustworthy, authentic sources. That’s when the light bulb went off 💡. We envisioned a unified platform bridging wellness seekers and natural product sellers, while promoting eco-friendly commerce and community awareness.

HerbConnect is a cross-platform mobile app that serves as a two-sided marketplace. It allows:

🧰 How we built it

We followed a well-structured development pipeline with both tech and design in mind:

🎨 Design Phase:

• Created UI/UX mockups using Figma – aimed for a clean, green-themed interface emphasizing ease of navigation.
• Studied existing marketplaces (Etsy, Amazon, etc.) to design intuitive screens for both customers and vendors.

🧑‍💻 Development Stack:

We also built admin features and used Cloudinary to store and retrieve product images efficiently.

⚔️ Challenges we ran into

Despite our excitement, we faced several real-world challenges:

• 🔐 Integrating secure payment gateways was trickier than expected, especially with vendor payment splitting.
• 🔄 Handling dual app logic (Vendor + Customer) in a single codebase required smart routing and access management.
• 📦 Inventory sync and live updates—ensuring that vendors could update stock in real-time, without race conditions.
• 📱 Designing a UI that feels welcoming to both tech-savvy and non-tech-savvy users took several iterations.
• 🔍 Testing for edge cases like interrupted payments or failed uploads slowed down development but helped increase reliability.
