Inspiration

Feeling powerless, impotent and loosing dignity while doing what you love, specially for nurses and other healthcare professionals is the main inspiration for developing HeroVision. Every day working face-to-face with Covid-19 and ending the shift feeling tired and bruised or scratched from PPEs equipment is a wake up call for us to do something for healthcare professionals.

The Problem

In a sample of 32 healthcare professionals, 81,3% finds PPE not comfortable, refering bruises and scratches on the face by wearing glasses and masks. Most of them wear this PPE 12 or more hours at work (53,12%). 75% of healthcare professionals recognize that PPE's could be improved. They point out that using so many PPE and so many hours makes them feel sad, insecure, powerless, and not be able to create a relationship with the patient. Some of them even say they are scared.

What it does

HeroVision is a full-face mask, that incorporates the glasses and the mask with the filter and a valve. Its a simple, transparent and comfortable mask, easy to disinfect and easy to change the filter. It allows healthcare workers to feel the safety and comfort that they desire and allows patients to recognize who is taking care of them. All around the mask is a gel border to provide a comfort attachment to the face. Also, the velcro straps will allow HeroVision to be adjustable for every worker and the light design and materials will be a plus for comfort. Also HeroVision pretends to be a PPE that is not transmitable. It is usable for just one person/professional. It is a way to prevent HealthCare Infections and prevent the transmission for Covid-19.

What have we done

Since the begining, HeroVision team has reached out to several individuals and mentors in order to improve and transform this idea into a project. The team did product validation among healthcare workers; defined the value proposition; defined the strategic way to advance with our project; identified the needs and points to improve and build a home made prototype for the mask. We also developed a landing page to start making connections and getting feedback from our users and clients.

Solutions impact

Financially, instead of using 2 PPE, healthcare workers can use only HeroVision. It is easy to disinfect with a swipe of alcohol. Emotionally, it gives the professionals comfort, security, dignity and transparency to see the patient and viceversa. It is not only a full face mask, it is who you are; so that you can accomplish your mission: take care of the ones in need.

Necessities

Develop a 3D printed model of HeroVision and make tests with a small group of healthcare professionals. Join an University/Hospital/Incubator to receive the best guidance and continue to develop the mask. Give a wider image of the potencial of the full face mask to other stakeholders rather than hospitals, like private practices, nursing homes and even home-based care teams.

What's next for HeroVision

Masks like HeroVision are always needed. Whether it is in a crisis period or in a normal routine, where healthcare professionals may be in contact with infectious diseases that needs this type of PPEs to prevent the spread of infections. Raise awareness, not only for personal protection, but also to prevent cross contamination and prevent healthcare infections. Making contacts with different stakeholders and companies that can produce HeroVision are the next steps. Also, continuing to validate the product and pivot as many times as needed. Creation of a landing page would be an advantage to spread our purpose and HeroVision.
