Inspiration
Personally, we realized that many social media users feel the need to conform to an aesthetic or certain public image without ever changing. Such a feeling does not allow users to freely express themselves and makes no space for our ever-changing self-perceptions.
What it does
HideOuts does not include features (ie. followers count, likes, public comment section) on most popular social media sites that would pressure users to conform to a certain type of "aesthetic" or digital image to gain a following. Instead Hideouts gives every user a private profile access key that they can share with any individual they feel comfortable freely expressing themselves to.
How we built it
We built a high-fidelity prototype using Figma.
Challenges we ran into
We had trouble figuring out which features to include and to not include.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating an app that is easy to use, and allows users to have a safe space in which they can post multimedia and express themselves as they wish without having the fear of what others would think.
What we learned
We realized in the prototyping phase, that many of the features of popular social media apps that allow for mass communication and sharing anything with the world can be both beneficial and have repercussions. Therefore, we put a lot of thought into the features that had to be included and those that had to be removed.
