Inspiration

We wanted to create a Christmas themed website that can bring the community together as well as a way or platform for them to do small generous acts. Some inspirations we had are the "12 days of christmas" song for our games and tasks. We also wanted to bring some Singaporean aspects to it like making it more about our neighbourhood communities, hence users in the same neighbourhood can work together and accumulate their total points and show them in the neighbourhood leaderboards. This is where we got inspired to name our website as "Hoodmas", a combination of neighbourhood and christmas. Christmas is also a time for keeping warm and having meals with family. This gave us the thought to create a platform for users to donate their clothes or volunteer their time to help others who are not as fortunate. Users who are in need of meals can also receive warm food from restaurants that have extra food. Overall, these ideas lead us to our website.

What it does

Our website has 3 major functions:

Secret santa: Allows users to add their wishlist and also get a chance to fulfill someone else's wishlist by shuffling and drawing names of other users.
Games: a scoring system for neighbourhoods to work together to finish up tasks inspired by the "12 days of christmas" song.
Generosity corner: a way for users to be generous to their community through donations and giving their time volunteering, while also receiving some generosity back through warm meals.

How we built it

We started with Figma to plan out our designs, going with a red and white theme, Christmas musics and snowflakes animation for games!

Challenges we ran into

As all of us are beginners, we had little or no experience and knowledge in creating a website and understanding the programming languages needed for it. We ran into many troubles along the way, for example, structuring where we want our images or text to be positioned in the website and javascript math.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges faced, as beginners we are actually rather proud that we were able to learn basic commands from the three days of workshops and through our own self-learning. During the time spent working on our website, we have learnt many new knowledge like the front-end and back-end of a website.
