Hookum

Inspiration

A lot of people, especially the underprivileged, cannot get good legal consultation, and many times they cannot defend themselves adequately. This inspired us to create a solution that bridges this gap.

What it does

Using an AI chatbot, people can consult about their legal issues with AI that has been trained with Indonesian law. We also provide a platform for users to share their experiences with Indonesian law, which could help others. Additionally, users can seek professional lawyers on the platform, especially those open to pro bono cases.

How we built it

We used Next.js for the front end and the OpenAI API for the language model. We employed Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to inject an Indonesian law dataset into the language model.

Challenges we ran into

Our team has various backgrounds, and we lacked experience in front-end development. The Indonesian law database we found was very large, so we limited the chatbot to only the KUHP law initially.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have developed a solution that could be helpful to many underprivileged people in Indonesia. The chatbot's results have been particularly helpful in analyzing Indonesian law.

What we learned

We realized the problem within Indonesian law and the underprivileged is very prevalent, and we underestimated the impact of this issue. This has given us greater insight into the legal challenges faced by many people.

What's next for Hookum

We aim to connect professional lawyers with people who have legal problems on our platform. We plan to retrain our chatbot with a full law dataset and previous cases to improve its capabilities.
