Inspiration
We were inspired by apps like Strava, which apply a software-based solution to wellness and health. We wanted to make such an app, but rather than targeting personal wellness, we wanted to target sustainable living. We focus on incentivising carbon reduction through the lifestyle changes of individuals, but we also support direct carbon removal through the purchase of offsets. The journey to net-zero begins with a single hop, and at Hoppa we believe that we can be that first hop for everyone!
What it does
Aimed at uniting individuals within organisations, Hoppa takes a holistic approach to altering behaviours to reduce carbon emissions.
We make it easy for users to track, reduce and remove CO2 emissions. An estimate of your toad-al emissions is given with a breakdown of the data from your transport, energy and food. Monthly challenges are set to provide you with some inspiration and motivation.
How we built it
We began by looking for a problem, then brainstorming a solution. After the core functionalities were agreed upon, the designers and the developers collaborated on the user flow diagrams. With those, the designers were able to make a high-fidelity mockup of the application, and the developers began building the software.
Challenges we ran into
As with all hackathons, there is the challenge of time. We also had some difficulty finding a problem that would be appropriate to solve with a software solution. However, after that, since we are all experienced hackathon participants, the development process was relatively challenge-free.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of our designers for learning a new tool just for this hackathon, and we're proud of our developers for getting familiar with Ionic under the time pressure.
What we learned
Our designers were happy to use this hackathon as a chance to learn Figma, and our developers explored the Ionic framework for the first time.
What's next for Hoppa
We have a comprehensive roadmap outlined with future plans for Hoppa. Don't hop away just yet, watch this space for exciting new developments!
