Inspiration
This project was inspired by HyperX's own products as well as Apple's Airpods Max. I wanted it to have the core features from HyperX's own lineup such as stellar battery life, amazing audio quality, and low latency while combining with the Airpod Max's ANC, comfortable fit, and premium materials.
What it does
This headset can be a great headset for gaming due to its surround sound, high audio quality, wired audio, as well as a detachable microphone with 2 USB-C ports. At the same time, it can also be used in the public with its ability to connect through Bluetooth, the inclusion of ANC, and 4 integrated microphones for calls. The headset also has LED lights in the front for a variety of purposes such as a light source when taking walks in the dark or to light up a dark desk.
How we built it
I first got an open-source blender render of a headphone from the internet and then converted it to a GLB file. I then imported the file into colorful.app, a free web-based design application. I took all shots with the product and then used Photoshop and Illustrator for adding the logo and LED's as well as some minor photo adjustments. Lastly, I designed the website using WIX to create the final submission. This all took over 10 hours.
Challenges we ran into
When starting off with the project, I was more focused on the design itself rather than the specifications of the device. This turned out to be a mistake, as I would render or finish editing the pictures before realizing that I had to edit the pictures to include another feature, which meant I had to render and edit them again. Additionally, I had some troubles with WIX. When viewed on different screen sizes, the scaling of the website would be off, so I had to troubleshoot the issue and position everything correctly to make sure the site was responsive.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm most proud of the 3d environments that I built and simulated in Colorful.app. It was actually really fun designing the minimalistic and aesthetic environments for the subject and the project really shines due to its detailed 3d models.
What we learned
I learned that I first have to think about the specs first rather than starting off with the design. I also learned a lot about 3d modeling, as I had very little knowledge before I started. Lastly, I learned a lot of new techniques and tools that I can use in the future in Photoshop and Illustrator.
What's next for HyperX Solace
I would like to continue to refine the design and add better specifications for the headset. Additionally, I would like to expand on the USB-C peripherals such as a face light or even used as a power bank for your phone rather than just having a USB-C detachable microphone.
