Inspiration

We were inspired by Hunter X Hunter, especially at the ending. It's best to always enjoy the smaller things in life, and to look for the detours and small distractions. We will all eventually reach our goals, we should just enjoy the ride.

What it does

im-gon generates a map with points of entertaining nearby locations to take a detour to along the way to your destination. The user will then be able to select a list of points and it will get the shortest path along the way, making sure you reach all the places you want.

How we built it

We used React.js, Yelp API, Mapbox API and Flask.

Challenges we ran into

The Yelp API used latitude and longitude and we thought that was a universal rule, but turns out its not, so that ended up creating reverberating problems and setbacks spanning several hours worth of confusion and frustration.

It was our first time using two API's communicating with each other so we had difficulties getting that working for a while

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are quite proud of having gotten both APIs to work and several hiccups had us concerned about the project.

What we learned

Everything we used to build the project was largely new to us, React.js, Flask, Yelp API, Mapbox and Flask.

What's next for im-gon

The Mapbox API has features that include adding 3D models to the map, we'd like to add a recommendation or filtering system to cater more to any particular users tastes.
