## Inspiration As students tired of trying to study by simply reading information and memorizing it, we decided to create a platform that makes learning not only fun, but incredibly effective. Using active recall, it allows users to study information and quizzes them on it, all while providing a layer of fun with a point system.
## What it does In A Flash uses Co:here's NLP to generate questions and answers for users to use, as well as a flashcard builder to help users study. Under each flashcard users can find a multiple choice question relating to the flashcard, that they can answer for points. In A Flash provides a clean environment for students to focus on the one thing that really matters: Studying!
## How we built it
We build the frontend of this website using HTML, CSS, and JS. We created the backend using Nodejs.
We collaborated using a Github repository.
We used Co:here's NLP Text Generation in order to create questions and answers when given a prompt.
We registered a .tech domain name on domain.com in order to deploy it as a website.
## Challenges we ran into The first and biggest hurdle we had to get past was the fact that we are all novice programmers and that this project would be a lot of learning as we go. We tried to start off in React but soon realized it may be easier for us to develop in HTML/CSS because of our respective backgrounds. We also had quite a bit of trouble trying to make the parts of the project that we all coded look uniform. Implementing the Co:here API took a lot of time because none of us have ever implemented an API before.
## Accomplishments that we're proud of The most accomplishment for all of us is the fact that we are leaving the hackathon having learned a lot. Most of us have never dabbled into a side-project this heavy before, especially not one that uses things like API's or takes input from users. We did not know each other well coming in, but quickly grew to learn to collaborate well. We are overall very proud of the fact we were able to create this website in such a short amount of time.
## What we learned We learned a lot of things through our time at this hackathon. It was our first experience dabbling in connecting API's and our first time deploying a project that actually makes a difference for an end user. We learned how to host a project on the web and connect it to a web server. We also learned how to use Github and push and pull requests to a shared repository.
## What's next for In a Flash! Next, we hope to make the ability to create an account and actually store user data. This would be instrumental in deploying this website as something consumers can actually use.
