Inspiration

Making decisions can be tough. Whether it's picking candy from a candy store or choosing a restaurant for your next date, we all wish we spent a little less time on making decisions and more time on the things we enjoy. We at In a Pickle were inspired by the various apps that help users match their preferences with other users to create a connection. However, we wanted to develop a tool that will utilize these preferences and help select their next dining experience.

What it does

In a Pickle takes the preferences of two users to select a dining experience they would both love. After creating and joining a room with one another, In a Pickle will get the all the restaurants in the area and start the matching process, where Users swipe left on the restaurants they're not so interested in, and right on the restaurants they adore. Once In a Pickle detects a match, the matching process will end and reveal to each user their next favorite date spot! A quick decision done in a pickle.

How we built it

In a Pickle was built using Javascript from end-to-end with the MERN stack. Restaurant data was obtained from the Yelp API, using axios as an HTTP client. Mockups were designed using Whiteboard and Figma.
