Inspiration
Lack of awareness about various environment related topics, like proper garbage disposal, proper use of natural resources etc, has led to people spoiling the environment which has a great affect on climate change. A measure had to be taken to prevent these kind of negative effects on the climate to ensure survival of mankind.
What it does
My app Informent, keeps people up to date on the different measures we can take to save environment. Different environmental organizations and NGOs can sign up on the app and publish articles and organize events to spread awareness and teach people about various environment related topics. People will gain credits as they do more and more events which they can redeem in the app shop to buy various things.
How we built it
I have built it using React Native and its Expo CLI along with Firebase as a database and storage service. I have also used Twilio with a NodeJS backend to send users confirmation and informational messages.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge for me was to use the firebase storage as I was using it for the first time and it took me a lot of time to understand its integration with React Native. Another challenge was to design the UI of the app as I am not a UI/UX designer.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of my whole project as I have learnt many new things during its development process and I had to overcome a huge challenge.
What we learned
I learnt how to use Twilio API and Firebase Storage along with embedding and uploading videos in React Native
What's next for Informent
As for the future plans, I would add kind of a level system in the app which makes people competitive and which makes it like a game so that people get more attracted to the app and actively participate in various events to gain credits. I will also like to add a interactive chatbot which would teach people how to reuse organic waste into making things which are usefull in daily life(like compost, toys etc)
