Inspiration
We came up with this solution based on our self-experience, while 6 months ago we were moving to USA from our country. Many people including ourselves have faced similar issues while moving, shifting or traveling to new place/area which leads to confusion in order to decide the area to move-in, eventually to reduce the time and come up with a clear idea with respect to the location, we decided to build Inrix Homes
What it does
After receiving the address of a location and time as input, the program returns area information collected from the INRIX APIβs over the selected period of time. Within that radius, the website will break down the area into blocks, highlighting the areas from which the user get all the information considering the parameters amenity and incidents such as shortest distance, fuel station, grocery stores, safety parameters, etc. This information can be viewed by hovering upon the location, where by selecting the parameter (incident/amenity) details are displayed with respect to selected option. The program offers shortest distance, safe, and easy accessible facility areas.
How we built it
Frontend:Vue.js,Backend:Flask,API's INRIX Polygon,INRIX Safety Alerts and INRIX Fuel Stations(Static ) were used
Challenges we ran into
Data was real-time which was changing after particular time-interval,Handling Redundant data Since few of us had no prior experience with restricted APIs, we first had trouble obtaining authentication tokens for the INRIX API. There were difficulties connecting the backend to the website and simulating a map on React for the UI. Due to these learning curves
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Team is thrilled with the developed solution and very happy with the result. The data is shown in a clear and understandable manner on the interactive map according to the userβs preferred time and location. After considering important parameters with respect to area, display of information is pretty understandable, leading to user-friendly software. We were able to solve the issue of recommending areas which were safe and were near to essential amenities(BANK,ATM,GROCERIES)
What we learned
How to integrate multiple Real-time API and handling Big Data Some team members had difficulty understanding and working along, yet we were nevertheless able to pick it up fast and contribute to the final result. We all, as a team had a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience on real world problems and exposure with API requests. Additionally, we were able to gain knowledge of many of the open-source JavaScript libraries and APIs, which helped us advance the project as a whole. While developing a project which is starting from scratch, we got to learn a lot more learnings in the perspective of team collaboration and technical development
What's next for INRIX_HOMES
We find our solution is a constantly evolving product, as was demonstrated by many of the features that were added after the initial functionality of analyzing area data was accomplished. Given the data-collecting nature of the INRIX API, Inrix Homes is scalable to larger quantities of data should they be provided. Our goal is to provide users with the best possible analyzed suitable area. Our next step would be to expand the scope of the product beyond the single city of San Francisco and historical data analytics. We also believe that this tool could provide even more helpful insight over longer periods of time and across larger regions, due to the limitations imposed by the INRIX API trial. Not only this Advance recommendation model can be implemented in merge, such as atmospheric data, crime data, past reviews (residence ), foot fall (overall crowd of the area), commute frequency, Temporary stays. Revenue can be obtained by taking commission over every booking we finalize and advertise
