Inspiration
When patients get admitted to the ER, emergency medical personnel require essential medical information to determine the best method of treatment for the patient. We decided to make a tool that could possibly make it easier to do so.
What it does
We built a website that is designed to read vital medical information (i.e. age, height, weight, gender, etc.) and input it into a database.
How we built it
We used HTML to build the website with the help of Pyscript, a new tool available in HTML that is designed to allow programmers to use Python in HTML. Infinity Free was our webhost service provider.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges as our team consists of novice programmers, which meant we had to overcome our lack of experience with a large amount of research.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Although we did run into many obstacles along the way, we were able to get a website up with a couple of customizations and programmed a rough draft of the pdf file reading and implementation.
What we learned
We not only learned a lot about working with other people on a collaborative program, but also more about web development as well as the possibilities and capabilities of HTML. We also learned about how NFCs work (more explanation below).
What's next for MediForm
Our original idea was to store important medical data onto an NFC, and design an application that would be able to read it and sort the information in an aesthetically pleasing and easy-to-read display. Therefore, if we were to expand on this project more, we would include an application that does this so that all a patient needs to do when admitted in an emergency situation would be to give the emergency medical personnel their NFC card/tag and it would display the information they need.
