Inspiration
There is so much data being uploaded to Instagram every second, however it is rare that this data is put to good use. Our team decided to challenge this notion and utilize the information from a Instagram user's feed in order to provide accurate and real-time recommendations for eating out.
What it does
We scrape through the top posts from a Instagram's explore page and use Google Compute Platform to identify and label different types of food. Next, we update this information to a real-time web application that showcases the volume of food posts at various restaurant locations near the user. The user will be able to make a decision of where to eat out, based on the volume of Instagram activity of their friends at restaurants near them.
How we built it
Our front-end web application is built with react.js and css. Through the Instagram API, we are scraping the images and identifying foods in the pictures using the Google Compute Platform.
