Inspiration

I used to grade papers at Kumon, and the process was very long and frustrating, which is why we wanted to simplify the process.

What it does

You can hold a math worksheet up to the webcam and press the capture button. Then, it instantly grades the worksheet and tells you which ones were wrong (without you having to input an answer key). Another feature is that you can hold up a blank worksheet with no answers, and it will generate an answer key for you.

How we built it

We used python and tensorflow for the handwriting and text recognition.

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble recognizing certain characters but we fixed it by using a larger dataset.

What we learned

We learned a lot about deep learning as this was our first experience with it.
