Inspiration

Type 1 diabetes affects over 300 000 people in Canada alone. Furthermore, we have a diabetic in our group and have many friends that are also diabetics, making this a personal issue.

What it does

Predicts if a diabetic will be low or high or neither in the near future.

How we built it

Using a recurrent neural network and data analysis.

Challenges we ran into

Lack of expertise and data. Open research field with no defined solution.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It is the only one in the world and we made progress into understanding the interaction of insulin with the body.

What we learned

Building neural networks and modelling biological control systems is difficult.

What's next for Insulator

We need to collect more data, obtain more computational power, and do a better analysis on the data.
