Inspiration
The inspiration for this project came from the realization that many young adults, including myself, often lack a basic understanding of insurance and its importance. Insurance is a complex topic, and there's a lack of accessible resources tailored to the needs of young adults. I wanted to bridge this knowledge gap by creating a website that would serve as a comprehensive guide to insurance.
What it does
On our website, we offer a range of tools to help you make informed decisions about your insurance coverage. The website provides a centralized dashboard of the current month's insurance payment, based on the user's login information. In addition, we provide an easy way to shop around for other insurance, while explaining each part of the process.
How we built it
We built our website using an M.E.R.N stack.
Challenges we ran into
Developing a website and API proved to be quite a challenge for our team due to our limited coding experience. We had to figure out various components and how they should function together, which was quite daunting. Moreover, we encountered some issues while integrating the API into our website, which took a lot of time and effort to fix. In addition, we had to deal with logistical problems such as scheduling meetings and coordinating with team member. However, despite these challenges, we persevered and developed a functional website and API that we were proud of. It was an educational experience, and we now feel more confident in our coding abilities.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the amount of work we accomplished in the short period of time with our limited experience. Three of our team members are relatively inexperienced in coding. But, despite that, we were still able to create a full-stack application within the time frame and complete the challenge. In addition, our team member working on the backend had on a M.E.R.N stack prior, but not on the backend. So, for him, creating a working APi and backend within this short period of time was an accomplishment for him.
What we learned
We learned a lot within this short period of time. Most of our team, learned HTML,CSS, and Javascript for the first time and successfully implement. In addition, we learned how the backend API works and connects with the front end. But most importantly, we all learned the value of connection with others and the belief in ourselves to finish.
What's next for InsurFind
Further improving the registration process, allowing users to put insurance information, and bettering out UI/UX design is what is next for InsurFind. Furthermore, we expand out database for insurance companies and information on other coverage opportunities.
