Inspiration
Me, Tristan, Soumita, and Dev started on a blank whiteboard. We had so many amazing ideas that we wanted to implement, but at the end of our brainstorming session, the idea that really stuck was InterviewSim. All four of us were first years preparing for internships over the summer, and we realized that none of us had much job interview experience at all. So, InterviewSim was born. We wanted a way to hone our interview skills, and believed that practice was the best way to achieve this, so we got to work.
What it does
InterviewSim is a platform that allows users to run through an infinite number of web based mock interviews.
How we built it
Two of us had experience with front end programming (html), and two of us had experience with back end programming (C++ and Javascript), so we split the work in half. Me and Dev worked on the structure of our webpage, while Soumita and Tristan worked on the if then functions that fueled our infinite online interview questions. All of us together worked on the interview questions.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we ran into was linking our html code to our Javascript code, because we all individually had minimal experience working with multiple languages. Fortunately, after lots of research on the web, we learned how to connect our front end and back end code.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of coming together as a brand new team of new coders and managing to turn a brand new concept into an interactive web interface within the course of 12 hours, with minimal outside help.
What we learned
We learned how to connect front end and back end languages, as well as make our first real world process. It was a long and arduous process filled with multiple ups and downs with our lack of coding knowledge being truly demoralizing at times, but these hardships taught us how to push through roadblocks and create a project we didn't know we were capable of making.
