Inspiration

Many people decide they want to learn a new skill, but end up not even starting due to the intimidation of the the challenge ahead of them and not knowing where to even begin.

Intro Edu aims to remove the "fear of the unknown" by giving users useful starting points to begin learning. By giving people a clear base to start from, the hope is that it becomes easier to stick to their goals.

What it does

Intro Edu points to educational content from around the web so that users who don't know where to start don't have to guess the right place to start for their given interests.

By filtering based on different interests, Intro Edu is able to provide relevant information to act as a launchpad for users to start learning a given skill.

How we built it

- HTML5
- CSS3
- JavaScript

The site was first designed in standard HTML & CSS to provide a layout that we wanted to build around, with JavaScript being added later to provide more functionality to certain elements.

The project aims to be overall very lightweight, since many users would be instantly put off with long wait times for basic operations.

What we learned

Although designing and implementing the site can be difficult, we learned that filling the site with content can be just as time consuming. Further, since this was the first time designing and publishing a full website for all of us, it taught us a lot about the importance of maintaining a "design pipeline" that team members can use to make sure that work is not repeated and so each team member can see what the others are working on as well.

What's next for Intro Edu

While we don't have any plans for the site in the near-future, the project was designed with scalability in mind. Some ideas we had were to further develop the filters, and show more relevant information to each filter when they were selected (i.e. relevant news, extra resources). We believe that we can add a lot more personalization to the site so that users are able to pick up where they left off each time they return to the site
