Inspiration
• Nowadays, everything has shifted to online. So education also switched to digital mode. We know that assessments are a vital and integral part of E-learning. Students remotely submit their papers without any monitoring from physical proctors. As a result of being able to cheat during e-exams, universities depend on such proctoring software’s which can prevent any discrepancies.
• But there were certain reports raised regarding the installation of such software’s.
• For instance, Manipal University had asked their students to install lightweight exam software called PEXA Lite for online proctoring.
• The students had been asked to turn off any Firewall or Antivirus in their devices before downloading this software. They had been advised to ignore any alerts that pop up regarding Trojans or Malware.
• Reportedly, passwords had also been shared with third party software without the consent of students. Sharing of Aadhar number, bank account details, and phone number has also been reported. This is clearly a security breach and violation of the right to privacy of the aggrieved students.
What it does
• This was the main reason for the creation of an online monitoring test website, a web-based application which need not be installed, user-friendly and easily accessible by students and organizers.
How I built it
• I built the website using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, PHP.
• HTML and CSS were used for the structure and designing of the website.
• A JavaScript library was used for the monitoring process- RecordRTC.js library
• PHP and MySQL were used for the login part, and uploading part as well as for the database respectively.
What I learned
• This is the first website which I developed. So I learnt so much about the designing and interactivity part of the website.
What's next for iXAM
• In the future, the monitoring system can be integrated with an AI proctoring system which can sense any sign of discrepancy or cheating automatically without any delay and thus provide a more secure exam environment.
