Inspiration
One of our group members thought we were winning a pie, and while brainstorming, we decided to use their idea, taking inspiration from CoolMath games like Learn to Fly and Free Fred for the direction the game would take. Halfway through development, the group member just realized that the pie was a Raspberry Pi, not an actual pie.
What it does
A game where the player tries to get to the moon to share a pie with their boyfriend. They start with a jetpack, but can purchase upgrades to increase how high the player can go
How we built it
Using Godot and all the art and music systems from scratch, and Anchorpoint for version control through GitHub
Challenges we ran into
Problems concerning version control, learning the Godot engine, as well as game file organization, and learning how to make a game using a game engine.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I (Lucas) have never made a game using a game engine, while the rest of the group had little to no experience in using Godot to make a game. We slept 0 hours during the hackathon and had an amazing time making this game.
What we learned
How to use Godot & GDScript, clear communication and planning skills, how to prevent problems with version control, what Monsters do to your heart,
What's next for Jet Pie
Add more features, polish mechanics, and possibly make it compatible with the Quackbox
