Inspiration

When searching for work, we usually send many job applications to different companies. One can lose track of which applications was sent where and at which stage the job application is currently at for different companies. People also lose track of what version of their CVs or Motivational letters were sent as part of the application. It makes sense to have a Job Application Tracker which keeps a record of where you are in the job hunt process for all the companies which interest you.

What it does

We built this web application to be able to track which companies you are applying to and at what stage in the process you are currently on. This will make it easy for people to organize their job hunting process. In the near future, we might make it possible to use ML and other toold to source for jobs online and recommend to people based on their skill sets.

How I built it

Vue.js: https://vuejs.org/ TailwindCSS: https://tailwindcss.com/ GraphQL: https://graphql.org/ Hasura GraphQL Engine: https://hasura.io/

Challenges I ran into

We ran into a variety of challenges. For example having live updates on the status boards. Also passing information back and forth for an inclusive user experience. We also had a very difficult challenge storing the user's data in the local dom for quick access.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are proud that we were able to accomplish so much in such a little time. We used a lot of new technologies that we would have never imagined to use. We also were really proud of execution of the idea. Our team communicated perfectly and we knew how to get a solution created.

What I learned

Our entire team learned a lot over the course of this hackathon. We learned a lot of VueJS' inner working. We also learned how Auth0's infrastructure works and how we can easily implement it into our project. We also discovered more efficient ways to routing. We spend a lot of time ensuring production ready code while also making the experience for the user perfect, which in return made us learn a lot.

What's next for JobTrack

JobTrack has a big future. We plan on making this into an actual product. Of course it is going to be a while because we have to perfect it and then extensively test it. We would also work on making our own authentication server which would allow for native logins and more manipulation of user's data.
