Inspiration
The inspiration for JointPal.ai arose from our collective experiences with family members suffering from arthritis and joint pain. As we explored project ideas for HackCamp, we realized that this issue extends beyond just the elderly; many teens today are also struggling with joint discomfort due to sedentary lifestyles and the physical demands of sports. Our aim was to create a platform that empowers individuals of all ages, particularly teens, to take charge of their joint health, making joint care accessible, engaging, and personalized.
What it does
JointPal.ai is an innovative platform designed to ease arthritis and joint pain management through a personalized AI-driven experience. The platform features a chatbot that interacts with users to identify specific areas of discomfort and recommends targeted stretches and exercises. With a comprehensive library of visual guides and detailed instructions, users can engage in stretches suited to their mobility levels. JointPal.ai adapts to individual progress over time, providing tailored recommendations and strategies for effective joint health management.
How we built it
The development of JointPal.ai was a collaborative effort that combined various technologies. We utilized OpenAI's API for advanced text processing and conversational interactions. The front end was built with React.js, ensuring a dynamic and responsive user experience. Axios was implemented for efficient communication between the front end and our Node.js back end, which was chosen for its scalability and ability to handle asynchronous events. This tech stack allowed us to create a user-friendly platform that meets the needs of our target audience.
Challenges we ran into
Throughout the project, we faced several challenges. One major hurdle was ensuring the AI accurately interpreted user symptoms and provided appropriate recommendations. Striking a balance between technical accuracy and user engagement was crucial. We also encountered difficulties with integrating the chatbot seamlessly into the user interface, necessitating numerous iterations to refine its responses and ensure clarity and relevance. Additionally, managing our time effectively during the HackCamp to meet deadlines while maintaining quality was a constant challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of successfully creating a fully functional prototype of JointPal.ai within a limited timeframe. Our team worked collaboratively to integrate complex AI functionalities into a user-friendly platform. The positive feedback we received during our demo highlighted our ability to address a real-world issue effectively. Additionally, we are proud of our extensive exercise library, which provides users with easy-to-follow instructions and visuals, making it accessible for everyone.
What we learned
The development of JointPal.ai taught us invaluable lessons about teamwork, the importance of user-centered design, and the potential of AI in healthcare. We learned how to adapt our ideas based on user feedback, ensuring our platform met the needs of teens while being engaging and informative. Moreover, we gained insights into the complexities of API integration and the importance of thorough testing and refinement in creating a seamless user experience.
What's next for Joint Pal
Moving forward, we plan to enhance JointPal.ai by expanding our exercise library and integrating more features, such as user progress tracking and personalized health reports. We aim to gather user feedback to refine our recommendations further and improve the chatbot’s capabilities. Additionally, we are considering partnerships with healthcare professionals to ensure our platform aligns with best practices in joint care and rehabilitation. Our ultimate goal is to make JointPal.ai a go-to resource for joint health, empowering users to lead healthier, more active lives.
