Inspiration

KIASDIFY aims to help ASD kids have a basic understanding of their characteristics to self orient their favorite jobs. With us, your kids will have a better sense of themselves and what career they should have.

Inspiration: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 1 in every 68 children has been identified with autism. This number has increased rapidly in the last few decades. Due to different neurological orientations, children with ASD tend to struggle with organizing and prospecting for themselves as their thought process is slower than usual kids. Thus, KIASDIFY is created to help kids have a better sense of themselves and what career they should have.

What it does

The 1st page serves the purpose of helping guests log in or sign up to use our program. In particular, for logging in, there will be a Get started/Sign up button in the center of the page. Once clicked, users can get access to the basic features of our website. If not registered, people can click on the Sign Up button and sign up. The login and Sign Up button will be located on the left and the right will be our logo and website’s name.

In detail, when users sign up, they will be enabled to use our special features such as sets of questions that will help orientate and our blog posts. There will be 3 categories in the Sign-Up section, one for children 12 and under/children from 12 - 18, another for adults/parents, or for registering as professors/specialists. To Sign Up (as children), all they need to do is pick a username, create a password and last but not least confirm their password (passwords will range from 2 to 8 characters so it can be easily memorized). The second group will also have to pick a username, put in an email, how many children ( and if any of them are exposed to ASD), create a password, and lastly confirm it. For specialists, they will have to create a username, type in an email, their birthdate, and their LinkedIn/profile show up as well as their experiences with ASD people, create a password, and confirm it.

2nd page will be our landing page to welcome users, here we will include information about us, our missions, and our visions.

Users’ profiles will be located on the 3rd page. The kids’ profiles will be where they learn about themselves. With this feature, we hope to send ASD patients a message: Learn about yourself to see how valuable you are. Initially, children need to recognize their name, age, birthdate, and how many family members as these are the basic information to identify who they are. In-depth, the kids will be taught about hobbies and dislikes, in addition, they will also be more aware of their specialties and weaknesses. Since children with ASD tend to feel irritated when forced to complete an action unwillingly, (their condition may even take a turn for the worse), we have built a feature for them to communicate with their guardians. During the process of building the profile, not only does the child get to know itself better, their parents will know their child better as well. As the program progresses, little ones will know their values while acknowledging their special qualities, which helps boost their confidence. Regarding difficulties, children will be cautious of what they are currently lacking and practice more to get ahead of other friends. Helping kids differentiate between what they like and what they do not can help with expressing themselves more clearly, parents can base on this to prospect for their child’s future career. Parents can join in to help to strengthen family bondings.

Children with ASD normally find it very difficult to reorient work as well as career orientation. To help parents and children with career choices, there will be a Basic Career feature with 11 of the most popular career groups worldwide. In each job group, we'll go deeper into each profession, accompanied by a small illustration along with a few lines of description (of the profession) so children can see what the job is like. Afterward, parents can communicate with their children about careers to continue helping children orient their careers based on their strengths and interests. In addition to the illustration feature, our website will include 2 more question lists to guide parents and children themselves (as they are older and more socially aware) to discover if the child is an introvert or an extrovert and what professions they should have. In this section, parents can completely work with their children to strengthen family bonds and help parents better understand their children and children also better understand themselves.

Blogs that are specially designed for doctors/specialists/people who are experienced with handling, curing, and nurturing children with ASD. They must be verified through signing up (by showcasing their LinkedIn/resume as evidence). Through this blog, they will be enabled to create blogs to share information about ASD for parents to have a better conception. Children will also read to know about their disease to try to overcome it and to form thoughts in them, boosting their confidence.

There will also be blogs for parents. They will need a subscription to be able to use these features. They will be allowed to create theirs in blogs for sharing experiences.

Blogs for children with ASD (older and have been exposed to social issues), children with ASD often have difficulties in expressing emotions as well as communicating, this blog will act as an E- diary for kids. This is a place where children can freely express their feelings and the choice of sharing their mood or preferring to keep it to themselves is completely up to them.

Furthermore, there will be a Q&A section for parents/children with ASD to ask questions. Hesitations can be avoided as users can ask anonymously. Then other specialists/parents can answer the question (publicly or anonymously).

Challenges we ran into

Support kids with ASD to have a basic understanding of their characteristics to self orient their favorite jobs. With us, your kids will have a better sense of themselves and what career they should have.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created the whole website on time with the ideas of supporting the ASD kids in understanding themselves and figuring out the most suitable jobs for them

What we learned

We learn much from our coding experience, teamwork, and knowledge about Autism Spectrum Disorder.

What's next for KIASDIFY

In the future, the website’s accuracy will be augmented by utilizing AI and sets of multiple-choice questions. Apart from that, we will also find more jobs to add to our job listings accompanied by interactive pictures and detailed descriptions for users to discover. Furthermore, in the future, we aim to connect with more specialists and experienced people who can share their stories and knowledge on how to help children with ASD physically and mentally.
