Inspiration
This project was inspired by the situation we found ourselves in during the peak of lockdown. Many of us were/still are away from campus and our friends and in our case, we knew no one around where we lived to meet up and hang out with. A lot of people found themselves feeling lonely in addition to all the stress and uncertainty they we were all already facing. The team tried to come up with a solution that would have helped and thus came the idea for Konect. Though the issue was at its peak during the lockdown, this is a problem that many people still have so we believe that the Konect app can still be very useful.
What it does
The Konect App is a convenient way to find people with similar interests who live around you. Connect with them and set-up times where you can meet to do the things you love! Whether it's on the field to play that sport you enjoy or on a video call to talk about that new song you can't get out of your head. Konect finds the people who love the things you love and they might be even closer than you think.
How we built
Given that we had to act fast, the app was built using Adobe XD which is a relatively quicker way to create a mobile app. We did some research on the most common hobbies that people have and decided to start with the options we found. Then we started thinking about User experience since the success of most apps comes down to this key factor. The team brainstormed on the best and most efficient layout for a new user then worked together to create the design plan for the application and a path that each user would take. We then started designing all the individual pages and adding functionalities, transitions and links. Finally, we did some troubleshooting.
Challenges we ran into
This was our first time building a mobile app so it took us some time to think of all the functionalities and features an app like this should have. Also, seeing as none of us have swift coding experience, we had to turn to Adobe XD which is a prototyping platform to design and prototype the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For all of us in this team, it was our first time participating in a hackathon and our first time building a mobile app. We stepped outside our comfort zone to try and create a unique project so even if we don't win, we're very happy with what we were able to create in 24 hours.
What we learned
We learned how to manage our time work together efficiently in order to complete the project on schedule. We were also able to improve our UI/UX design skills through working on creating a simple, easy-to-use app for users.
What's next for Konect
We are all in the process of learning how to work with Xcode and the swift language so the next step for this app would be to actually develop it on Xcode.
