LandSight
Overview
LandSight is a comprehensive risk assessment dashboard designed to help Lennar make data-informed decisions by calculating risk scores based on various factors such as location-specific vulnerabilities, annual loss projections, and district ranks. By delivering an intuitive and powerful dashboard, LandSight provides stakeholders with the insights needed to evaluate property risks and make strategic decisions with confidence.
How we built it
We developed LandSight using Python for backend data processing and risk calculations, with libraries like Pandas to manage and analyze data efficiently. The front end of the dashboard was built with Looker Studio providing a responsive interface. We also integrated external APIs and datasets to ensure that our risk assessments are based on the latest data from sources such as FEMA, OpenCage Geocoding API, and SchoolDigger API for the school ratings.
Challenges we ran into
One of the primary challenges we faced was identifying and integrating high-quality datasets and coordinating data from various APIs to ensure accurate, consistent results. Balancing multiple data streams and synchronizing them for smooth real-time updates in Looker Studio was another technical hurdle that required innovative problem-solving.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud to have delivered a user-friendly, impactful dashboard that seamlessly integrates complex data from multiple sources. Successfully implementing API integrations to populate Google Sheets with relevant data and visualizing it within Looker Studio was a major achievement. The dashboard’s accessible design allows users of varying technical backgrounds to interpret and interact with critical insights with ease.
What we learned
This project gave us valuable experience in data integration and visualization within Looker Studio, enhancing our skills in dashboard design. We learned how to leverage new tools for API integration and visualization, turning raw data into actionable insights. Through overcoming challenges, we also gained a deeper understanding of real-time and multi-source data management.
What's next for LandSight
In the future, LandSight aims to expand its capabilities by accessing additional APIs to incorporate even more risk factors, including zoning and environmental data, which could help stakeholders better anticipate potential regulatory challenges. Our goal is to evolve LandSight into an indispensable tool for comprehensive risk assessment in the real estate sector, supporting informed decisions at every level.
