Inspiration

I am learning German by myself (at least 30 minutes every day). I use duolingo and various resources for this. I know ~700 words and some grammar, but I can not speak German in real life situations (I have been to Germany). So I would like to find someone at uni, who would like to learn Russian or Ukrainian (my natives languages) and knows German, so that we could talk and practise.

Note: Features marked with * are not implemented yet.

What it does

The user can register*, fill in their details* (like picture, languages they know and they want to practise (+ current proficiency), email). Then they can search among all registered users for people, who know X and want practise Y. After this, they get people's emails and can contact them and meet.

So far it is only for Warwick students (the user must provide @warwick.ac.uk email)*. But it could be scaled easily for other universities.

How I built it

I took Python and Django.

Challenges I ran into

I have never built a site with Django before, so it was my first time. It was quite nice. Unfortunately, the time bounds were quite tight, so I did not manage to do everything I planned (e.g. to deploy on AWS, buy domain name, basic design, user registration).

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The prototype works. I understand how django works. It was a great experience to build a database with django.

Better desing, user registration, deploying on AWS, sharing with close friends and looking where life brings us... (and adjusting the model according to user needs)
