In Last Link, players are the final surviving network engineer in a fractured digital world, decades after the catastrophic e-virus known as the "Great Tech-Xtinction" wiped out all communication systems. Across the virtual city, isolated sections represent scattered pieces of humanity’s lost networks. Each part holds a broken WiFi tower, the last lifeline to global connection, but reaching them is only the beginning, as mini evil virus robots defend the towers while attacking the player.
To build our game we used Godote which is where we had the code for our game as well the city background which we built from scratch. For all the creative aspects of our game, we used Resprite a pixel art application to create all of our characters pixel by pixel.
We faced many hardships during the few hours of coding our game, whether it was simply coming up with an idea that fit with everybody’s preferences, designing every aspect of the game on time or figuring out how to code our game according to the plan. Despite all these obstacles, we worked together as a team and found a way to make it work.
We’re very proud of the hard work and love everyone has put into this project. Whether it ended up as a failure, we had many successful moments where everyone came together and celebrated these things that everyone worked so hard on accomplishing. Some things that we’re really proud of was the fact that we genuinely made a game together, got a git workflow working for the first time, and learned how to use Godote and game creation software.
Today in this prestigious Hackathon, among my teammates we had many disagreements however, what we learnt was to sacrifice ... .to compromise on our ideas for the group's benefit. To listen to each other respectively even when time felt less. Today we learnt how to work as a team. Today we learnt what being a team player means!
Although we’re very proud of the accomplishment’s everyone has made, there are definitely things that everyone can do to improve upon our game. For example, when the player shoots bullets, it goes through walls because it does not have physics integration. In the end this was a great learning experience for everyone and we can all take something away from this experience.
