Inspiration
We realized pretty quickly that our entire team was made of either Latinx immigrants or daughters/sons of Latinx immigrants. Then we got to thinking, none of us had ever seen a Latinx website honoring our contributions to the STEM community, and considering it's also Hispanic heritage month, it's a great idea! Whether this is from our own ignorance or otherwise, we decided it would be cool to honor the greatest Latinx engineers, physicists, mathematicians, etc.
What it does
It has a quiz to test users' Latinx knowledge, descriptions of some "hall of fame" persons of interest, and functionality to send an email to your address with the "Latinx person of the month". We even have a clicker for some fun on the site!
How we built it
We used React, CSS3, HTML, JS, Express Node, and others all together for the functionality.
Challenges we ran into
High lack of knowledge, as this was the first hackathon for 3 of us, and we had little knowledge of web development coming into this (Thanks to Zackary Santanas for the immense help this weekend). We also ran into issues over git we could not resolve, so we simply created a new fresh repo with a single push to start fresh and continue working.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning and accomplishing so much within a span of 36 hours! We went from knowing very little web development to making a nearly full-stack website!
What we learned
All the technologies we mentioned, ideas from scrum methodology, the importance of documentation, and much more!
What's next for Latinx.tech
Completion and final editing of the project, to finally publishing the website online to educate users globally!
