Leaftle

Leaftle is a musical guessing game inspired by the web game "Heardle" that features hourly music from the Animal Crossing Series. It was developed using React and the Semantic UI Framework.

Inspiration

we love animal crossing, music, and wanted to learn web development so we thought this was the perfect project to pursue for this hackathon

What it does

In Leaftle, when the page loads, you are met with four boxes for your guesses, two dropdowns for submitting your guesses as to what music plays when the play button is pressed, and a button for submitting your guess. When a song is guessed (based on the time and game of origin), the song shows up in one of the guess boxes, in sequential order. If a song is guessed incorrectly

How we built it

We built it using React and Semantic-ui (a library for react), to handle any and all functions that HTML doesn't natively support

Challenges we ran into

We both were absolute beginners for most of this code and therefore, had a lot of issues that we did not know how to solve and/or elements/problems that took us hours to solve on our own (or with a tad bit of help)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Over the course of the day, we had many small wins, big wins, and tumbles alike. For Kara, her biggest accomplishment was designing the logo all on her own after struggling with photoshop for hours. For Jacob, his accomplishment he is most proud of is getting the songs to play correctly, and implementing the time scaling.

What we learned

We learned a lot over the course of 14 nigh straight hours of coding, and enough caffeine to make Kara's liver start to fail (true story), but what we learned is that web development really isn't our thing and thats ok! What matters is that we experienced it, and got a somewhat decent end product out of it.

What's next for Leaftle

Upcoming plans include (but not limited to):

  • Updating the leaves to show incorrect/correct time and game
  • Adding back "Help/How to play" and "Stats" Pages (scrapped for time)
  • Adding a Time Bar to show current progress of song
  • Making it daily instead of on page refresh (scrapped for time and judging purposes)
  • Updating ui to look more sleek and refined
  • Storing user stats
  • Permanent web hosting
  • Add a funtion to let you replay songs
  • Updating with future games
  • Calling an exterminator to get rid of bugs
