Inspiration
We saw companies harvest massive amounts of data and put your own files at risk! We also saw that people throw away their old computers and don't find a way to reuse them. We were inspired by the costs of cloud storage and the large amounts of e-waste in the world.
What it does
LegacyDrive turns your old computer into a cloud storage device.
How we built it
We built LegacyDrive by combining all the tedious processes of making you computer into a cloud storage device into one quick and easy process. By going through the steps of doing it ourselves and turning it into various commands in terminal we could make it super easy for the end user
Challenges we ran into
We had problems with executing the correct commands at points and we also sturggled with making a linux distro within windows, luckily we could use WSL to help us make it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to quickly complete the front-end.
What we learned
We learned about working with terminal, self hosting, anger management, and video making in under 30 minutes.
What's next for LegacyDrive
We plan on making more compatability with open source software and making setup even easier for the user by bypassing the initial setup required by services like NextCloud and automatically port forwarding and publishing the cloud storage to the internet to be accessed by any device
