Inspiration

There was not a direct inspiration, we wanted to make a game-like product to which we could apply retro themed graphics while additionally following the Capital One Finance Literacy Track.

What it does

This app/website uses user input finance goals, budget, and purchases. In a game-like style the app tracks spending and budgeting using your budget as a health bar, items purchased as enemies, and money spent as damage dealt from enemies. You fight the boss after a period of time (your finance goal) and if you met your goal you beat the boss and advance in level.

How we built it

We used python flask for the backend functionality and frontend along with html and css. Then we used a Google Gemini API to make our game character give budget advice to the user.

Challenges we ran into

The initial learning curve was extremely steep, our group did not have Gemini AI experience prior to the workshop held by HackNC. Additionally, nobody specialized in web development and the group was somewhat rusty with python, but with the help of flask and trial and error we overcame it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to implement a software that we learned just prior to the start of our project while having a fully functional chat-bot like avatar and a retro-style website.

What we learned

Levin with heavy use of gemini learned about its website implications along with the rest of the group and website development (UI and backend)

What's next for Ramses Budget Quest

We want to implement more game-like features such as a moving health bar that is connected to the users budget, boss fights (which you can win or lose depending on if you met or didn't meet your financial goal in a time period, receipt scanning to make inputting purchases easier, and making the website a google extension so it is easier to access for a user rather than a website.
